CET 2011 Analysis

A perfect analogy that I can think for CET 2011 - “Pandora’s box of Surprises”. With thousands of students expecting a pattern based paper like that of the yesteryears faced a horrifying situation while going through the question paper.

A survey of 50 CET 2011 candidates was conducted to understand the top of the mind reaction for CET 2011. Here is the result of the survey:

* other responses include Irrelevant/Extreme opinions and/or usage of profane words to describe opinions.

Here’s what the Prolific Indian Media has published with regards to CET 2011:

Counting the figures in Red, we come to a total 132.However, adding a buffer of 6 marks, 138 looks to be an ideal score for JBIMS.

The Brighter side of the CET 2011 Story:

Overall, the Cet 2011 was a test that completely caught students off guard and this was a case with a majority of students. Lengthy questions, moderately difficult problems backed by a pre conceived notion of students regarding the test pattern made CET a difficult paper in its own way. With number of attempts falling from the yesteryears' average of 170-175 came down to 140-145 and therefore the overall cutoffs are bound to go down substantially.

The CET 2011 was moreover a "different" paper than a "difficult" paper and therefore a few cool minds with excellent question selection capability are bound to take a lead this year. The predicted cutoffs for the prestigious JBIMS would touch 140 (written score, though it’s not necessarily a safe score).
When a cricket team batting first collapses in the first innings, a lot of onus lies on the bowling side of the team to help win the match; in case of CET, the collapsed batting side was the written test and the same team's bowling side is the GD/PI round. A good performance in the latter part of the selection process can make a huge difference to the combined score thereby making or breaking your chances to get the B-school of your choice.

All in all- CET 2011, more than being a test of knowledge and speed was a test of PSYCHE.

What next?
CET 2011 was a surprise for sure, but currently there must be a lot of questions arising in the minds of the future CET takers. You can now expect the entrance exam coaching classes to actually set mock tests for CET rather than doing permutation & combinations in selecting questions from their long existing respective question banks.

Though CET took the unconventional route of changing the test pattern, it still remains a test with manageable questions jumbled in sheets of paper and makes you use your brains as to how to go about the paper.

All the best !!!
