A Research Report on Perception of Indian Youth towards employment in the BPO Sector.

A Research Report on Perception of Indian Youth towards employment in the BPO Sector.

Hypothesis

The research being descriptive in nature, calls for a definite Hypothesis, as the core purpose of this report is to find out the Perception of the Indian youth towards the growing BPO sector which is simultaneously facing several HR problems like less employees opting for BPO industry as a career and second being the high attrition rate.

Therefore, both the Hypotheses are clear and specific towards the Research Objective.

The Hypotheses are as follow:

H0 = the youth of Mumbai perceive the BPO sector as an unattractive career option

H1=the youth of Mumbai perceive the BPO sector as an attractive career option

RESEARCH FINDINGS

CONCLUSION

The BPO and KPO sectors in India have been showing some positive signs with demands from western countries increasing due to the availability of cost-effective labor in India, which is highly skilled and also fluent in English. Of course, the big boom in the BPO industry in 2003 generated a lot of employment opportunities and the phenomenon continues even today.

Nevertheless, Indian BPO sector is facing competition from countries like Philippines, Mexico, Malaysia, China, and Canada. The expected growth of this sector in 2003 was 25%. Nations like the United States and Europe are showing great interest in increasing their investments in the Indian BPO sector.

But, as seen in the analysis above, it is clear that there is a certain kind of Negativity that flows out of the word “BPO” even though it acts a source of employment and country’s development in an extensive manner. Even the educated youth have also become a part of the herd to criticize the sector and hence we reject hypothesis1 and accept hypothesis0 i.e. the youth of Mumbai perceives the BPO sector as an unattractive career option.

It’s an appalling scene to see people look down at the BPO or Outsourcing sector. There has been a tremendous growth in this sector and also has solved the problems of unemployment in the country to a great extent. It’s the industry that introduced the 5-figure salary to mere graduates

If you take a look at college canteens, Audit firms, consulting companies and so on, even they are a part of Outsourcing. But, the association of the term ‘call center’ has ruined the strength and potent of the word ‘Outsourcing’.

  5. Hi! I'm doing a thesis on the perception of the BPO industry in the Philippines--somewhat related to this research report you posted on your site. The findings are very interesting. When was this research report done or published? Who's the author? Is there any way I could access it? Or just the abstract at the very least. It would be a really big help to my study. Thank you.

  7. An interesting piece of work. I have a question that why in the last sentence you have written that "call center" has ruined the strength and potent of the word outsourcing? Any specific reasons for such statement?
